Welcome to the README file for battle-girl 1.0 from Ultra/United Games! This game allows you to control the fate of battle-girl as she fights Terminus, Weapon of Chaos.
You may distribute this Demonstration Version of battle-girl freely using whatever means (electronic, via magnetic or optical media, or through whatever means you desire) and to whomever you see fit, as long as it is left unaltered and this "README" file is included with it.
This demo features 6 levels of the complete game. You will play levels numbered 1, 2, 3, 5, 10 and 40. Levels 1-5 are fairly tame, but you will probably still have to play several times to learn the controls and reach level 5. Level 10 is a moderate jump in difficulty. Level 40 is an advanced level that will give you an idea of what you can look forward to. Don't worry, you will be granted a powerful weapon for level 40 to even the odds.
The demo includes only one song from the soundtrack, 8-bit as opposed to 16-bit sounds, 6 out of 99+ levels, no difficulty settings, no high score list or any other auxiliary features.
In the full version you get, among other things:
- 6 Complete Techno Songs
- 16-bit Stereo Sound
- 8 Weapons Systems
- 99+ Levels
- 15 Fiendish Enemies

Watch the help animation to learn the basics of gameplay. You may wish to go through the help screens twice, to make sure you've read everything.
Control the movement of your ship with the mouse and weapons with the keyboard. WEAPONS AND MOVEMENT DIRECTION ARE INDEPENDENT. This means you can move in one direction and fire in another. Fire primary weapons in eight directions using the keys centered around "S".

The space bar fires your secondary weapon. You must pick up a secondary weapon before you can use it. Ammunition is limited.

Other controls:
<esc> - Show the Menu Bar
<control> - Pause the Game
Now select Play from the title screen. If you follow the arrows which appear around your ship, you will advance quickly. If you don't you will have to fight a big robot that will probably kick your butt the first few times. Protect your function pods! Destroy all programmers! Good luck!
KNOWN PROBLEMS
- Dual-joystick play may require two different makes of joystick. This is due to the joystick manufacturer's driver software.
